»Inside/Outside DKB«
As part of the current exhibition »G is for German?«, there will be a panel discussion with artist Ann Schomburg, the show’s curator Philip Kojo Metz, and Albert Weis, the latter both members of the Deutscher Künstlerbund executive board. Audio artist Armin Keplinger will then present his work »Random Access Memory«.

Based on the way the Deutscher Künstlerbund understands its own role, »Inside/Outside DKB« will discuss the social relevance of artistic work, examining the organization's own position as a cultural institution and reflecting on the role of artists within society. This raises a number of questions: How do we currently stand in relation to society? What can art societies and associations, as well as individual artists, contribute to increasing diversity, fairness, sustainability and quality of life? Is increased artistic engagement needed in the face of the current crisis and wars? What role might be played here by institutions and exhibition venues? Does the struggle to maintain the freedom of art call for new formats? And what about the appreciation of artistic achievements by today's society?

One starting point for this discussion is Albert Weis's presentation of the »art and society« working group founded to prepare a symposium on this theme in 2024. Another is the exhibtion now on show at the Deutsche Künstlerbund »G is for German?«, that explores sociopolitical issues around origins and belonging. Philip Kojo Metz will give an introduction to the exhibition concept and Ann Schomburg will speak, on the basis of her own work as an artist, about the scope for action offered by contemporaneity.
