Artist Talk in the Project Space
InderTikku alias InderSalim (New Delhi)
On September 14th at 7 p.m. the Deutscher Künstlerbund invites to a speech of the Indian performance artist InderTikku/InderSalim in its Project Space in Berlin-Mitte.

InderTikku/InderSalim was born in the late 1960s in the Moslem part of Kashmir and was raised in a Hindu host family. At the age of 22 he fled with his family to India.

As an artist he initially worked with traditional media like painting, however in 1999 he turned to performance art in public space. In 1994 he was cofounder of the renowned Poetry Club of India. Ever since then, collaborations with fellow artists have played an important role such as in his cooperation with the French artist Laura Martin since 2003.

Based on his personal background his work concerns itself with socio-political problems of India, whereby the conflict of religion takes up a decisive part. But also topics like gender, economic distribution and human rights are focused on in his work. He increasingly turned towards the stage of world politics in the past years.

Aside from the presentation of his work InderTikku/InderSalim will address the situation of visual arts in India as well as the contemporary art establishment there.
